Hearing loss is an invisible issue which affects one in every six adults in the UK. If you find that you are struggling to keep up with conversations, or need to turn the TV or radio up louder than normal, a hearing assessment can often reveal the problem.
We provide free hearing tests locally at the Paignton branch of our partners, Riviera Eyewear.
As audiologists with a combined total of more than fifty years of experience, we know just how simple it can be to regain full clarity in both ears, and with it, your quality of life.
Our hearing health checks are non-invasive, comfortable and totally painless.
Typically taking less than an hour to complete, our consultations are designed to ascertain the range of sound frequencies that your ears can pick up. The first part of the evaluation uses a modern video microscope to make a close-up examination of your inner ear. This can reveal the extent of any ear wax blockages, or potentially any damage to the ear drum or ear canal.
The second stage involves a piece of equipment called an audiometer. This plays a series of different sounds through noise-cancelling headphones, and gives us a better idea of the depth of your hearing acuity.
We will discuss the results with you and can offer fully impartial, no obligation advice on the most suitable paths for treatment if we detect any problems. This could involve a referral to your
GP, an ENT specialist, or a more in-depth hearing test to accurately diagnose the cause of any underlying issues.
It completely depends on what is causing your loss of hearing. It could be that a build-up of ear wax is blocking your ear canal, which in turn prevents soundwaves from reverberating properly on your eardrums. In that case, removing the wax plug may well clear things up.
Even if you do have a condition which will be helped by hearing aids, the technology in them has progressed immeasurably over the past couple of decades. From cutting edge in-ear receivers, to digital hearing aids which fit discreetly behind the ear, we will give you a detailed demonstration of how the most suitable hearing aid model for you works.
The days of those bulky NHS hearing aids are long behind us. All modern styles are fully digital with adjustable volume controls and offering hugely improved sound clarity.
